Elementary architectural and structural design principles of civil buildings. Rooms and floor areas requirements, building volume and zones, cardinal point orientation, operation schemes, interiors equipment and furniture.

Respect for applicable ordinances, regulations, standards. Application of current requirements for economy, energy efficiency of buildings and environmental protection. Requirements for barrier-free design of buildings and accessibility to them.

Entry Knowledge

The curriculum is continuation of general typology of Building Science 1.
Without having attended it is impossible to design civil buildings. Knowledge of bricked, monolithic, wooden and steel constructions. Knowledge of building services and fire safety of buildings.

Aims

Elementary architectural and structural design principles of civil buildings.

 

Knowledge refinement of regarding residential buildings, civil buildings, new knowledge of design constructions needs from the point of view of space formation, operation scheme, and selected types of buildings capacity solutions, students orientation in the current legislation regarding those constructions requirements.

  • 12. Theatres, concert halls.
  • 13. Barrier-free buildings – basic rules for designing.

13 weeks, 2 hours/week, compulsory

Syllabus

Main task: (4th – 12th week)

DESIGN an architectural study of public building on the given construction site (including furnishings) - own design

Criterions:

  • orientation to the cardinal points (building situation site, access from public transport or parking )
  • choice of suitable construction system
  • functional structures - operating schemes
  • area of rooms
  • ergonomics in individual rooms
  • capacity of hygienic facilities, kitchenette
  • barrier free access
  • work space x relax premises (coffee bar, small canteen) – in office buildings
  • stowage space
  • parking
  • attractive design of proportions, materials and fasades (in colours)

Preparatory task: (1st– 3rd week)

Before you start your own design - work up preparatory research - review on chosen task (hotel or office building). Choose three projects – designs on www.archiweb.cz. Find out all rules, regulations and standards related to your task.

Complete with photos, pictures, layouts, sketches of new designed solutions

Output: size A3 – ribbon or ringlet bookbinding and will contain:

  • research – review
  • accompanying information
  • site layout
  • layouts of floors 1 : 100
  • section through staircase 1 : 100
  • all facade elevation 1 : 100
  • 3D visualization
  • graphic arrangement – any art - all sheets of papers in unified adjustment, in colours
