The examination assesses not only the knowledge acquired in the VYA006 and VYA007 courses but also the ability to communicate orally and in writing in everyday situations at the B1− level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The examination consists of a written and an oral part.

WRITTEN PART

1. Grammar

Present simple and present continuous; past simple and past continuous; present perfect simple; expressing the future using will, be going to, and the present continuous; definite and indefinite articles; subject, object, possessive adjectives, and possessive pronouns; prepositions of place and time; there is / there are; adverbs of degree and their position in a sentence; word order in affirmative, negative, and interrogative sentences; irregular verbs; first and second conditional; comparison of adjectives and adverbs; countable and uncountable nouns (much, many, few, little, a lot of, enough); the passive; gerunds and infinitives; used to; indefinite and negative pronouns (somebody, anybody, nobody); modal verbs (can, could, would, should, must, have to, may, might).

2. Vocabulary

Completing words based on definitions covering the following topics from English File Pre-intermediate: describing people; personality; clothes; holidays; housework; shopping; describing a town or city; opposites; phrases with get; animals; prepositions of movement; phrasal verbs.

3. Writing

Writing a short text of approximately 35 words according to the given instructions.

4. Reading

Choosing appropriate responses in a conversation; completing a short text with missing words.

5. Listening

Three short listening tasks.

ORAL PART

The oral examination lasts 5–10 minutes and covers the topics practised in the VYA006 and VYA007 courses.
